James Whitcomb Riley (Greenfield, Indiana October 7, 1849 – July 22, 1916), American writer & poet known as a "Hoosier poet" and Usa's "Children's Poet" mass produced the run writing newspaper verse inside Hoosier accent for the Indianapolis Journal inside 1875. A bit of of his phrases remained in a popular repertory fallowing the verse form were there is no elongated scan: "when the frost is on the punkin."
Known for even his idiom recitations & sententious pragmatical remarks, his popular verse was humourous or sentimental— one of whose sentimental verse form was "Little Orphant Annie" He knew a secret of his have profits: “simple sentiments that came from either the heartâ€? & satisfied his public sustaining mild verse that was "heart high." He supported himself touring sustaining accent & public readings of his poetry. His favored authors were Burns and Dickens. His survive collection was Knee Deep inside June (1912).
When a "People's Laureate," his verse form were considered then inspiring, withwithin 1915 a Secretary of the Interior suggested that one of his verse form exist as scroll through in both school-school in the land.
Legacy
Inside 1916 a group of large citizens from either Indianapolis who knew Riley started a Riley Memorial Association (late known as Riley Children's Foundation) to build a children's hospital in memory of Riley. A James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children opened in 1924. Around 1950, the foundation began Camp Riley, a camp inside in the south central Indiana for children by owning handicap.
